The time has passed -I can no longer introduce myself in class as “Alice, major undecided”. I have officially (as of about four minutes ago) declared as a Biology major and Anthropology minor.
I appreciate that the verb “to declare” is used when talking about majors. In this situation it means to formally make something known, as in how I’ve formally notified Colby of my major choice. Yet, I like to think of it by its other definition that I snagged from dictionary.com: “to state emphatically”.
It took me all of thirty seconds to declare my major on Colby’s website. Still, it’s exciting to me that I have found my direction; that I was actually able to make a decision about what I want to study and possibly pursue for a career. So, I’d like to celebrate this moment a little more dramatically by emphatically stating to you that I, Alice Hotopp, am a bona fide college student with a legitimate major.
