From Frosty to Iced...A Brief Review of the First Week of Spring Semester '08

If Mayflower Hill were to be best described as some sort of house, currently it would be an igloo. Our gorgeous campus is covered in about 82' of ice. There is ice on the buildings, on the trees, on top of the snow, but worst of all on the paths! Our Physical Plant Department (PPD) is doing an awesome job salting the paths and the roads but even they can't keep up with how much snow, ice, and freezing rain we are getting! I might be exaggerating about the 82' of ice but as the 7th graders in my girls' group say, "Leg-it" it is icy! (Leg-it=legit=legitimate).

My final semester...Read Entire Post

Hello from the Frosty Hill!

When I was knee high to a gnat I used to think that when it snowed it was because the angels had dry scalps and were shaking out all of their scalp skin down on us. And when it rained I thought it was because they were all waiting in line for the toilet but really couldn't hold it anymore. I won't tell you what I thought was happening when it was really windy.

If you're up here in Maine right now, you know what I mean about the need for dandruff shampoo though. It has been flaking...snow flaking...snowing for the past bazillion days. Okay, not a bazillion, just four. But four days is a lot of angel dandruff. Oh, and get...Read Entire Post

HELLO!

We shall return to the originally scheduled blog, "Dry Skin, Muppets, & A Bit of Senioritis," after this brief message:

Hi, I'm Patrick and I'm a bad blogger. I first realized I was a bad blogger when I started getting blog bullied by the InsideColby gang. They'd shove me on the playground and take my lunch money and tell me that I couldn't get lunch if I didn't blog. Well, now that I've gone a few months without having lunch and today they have my favorite wrap at Dana--a chipotle turkey wrap that I jazz up with red onion and green peppers--I figured I would write a blog so that the blog bullies would stop taking my...Read Entire Post

Hello Again From the Hill:

This past week saw some pretty fantastic things up here on Mayflower Hill. We had our first stays-on-the-ground snow fall on Tuesday. It upset some people's travels home for the holidays but not mine because I was on campus for an extra night for a meet against the University of New England. Both the men and women posted their first wins of the season and we both now have 1-1 records after falling to Amherst last Saturday.  This Saturday we head down to Boston for the MIT Winter Invitational. I am not exactly sure who we are competing against down there other than MIT but I assume there will be some strong match-ups.

Personally, I am still working...Read Entire Post

Hello Out There,

The leaves have all pretty much fallen off the trees here in Waterville and this morning I had to take a few strong strokes across the windshield of my roommate's car to clear off the frost, both events tell me that fall is quickly giving way to Jack Frost. In a little over a week, I'll be back in Virginia enjoying my family's company and hopefully some warmer weather. But in the mean time, I should catch you up on the past two months as I have again been derelict in my duties as a blogger. They [the advisors behind InsideColby] tell me that I should blog more often, but that I can write shorter posts. I guess not all of my posts need to be...Read Entire Post

Greetings from the Hill,

As the leaves change, classes start to pick up a little bit, and the start of the swim season draws nearer, I relish the time I spend kicking back and relaxing in my Foss quad. After spending the past two years living in singles, I warmly welcomed the opportunity to live with three other people. Of course, these aren't just any three people. They are three of my loveliest female friends: Carrie, Lucia, and Shae. While we initially wanted a senior apartment, I think we would all agree that our Foss quad is just as good, if not better than having an apartment. While we don't have a kitchen, we live in one of the two dorms that have dining halls on their...Read Entire Post

Hello Again!

It has been quite a long time since my last blog and for that I apologize. Upon arriving in the Bay Area this summer I immediately started working and then in the latter half of the summer I was taking classes and before I knew it the summer had passed me by! Needless to say, my last blog titled, "The First of Many California Blogs" was indeed the first and last blog from California. As a witty reader noted, I have left California but have no fear that my summer was a wonderful learning experience and a whole lot of fun. The internship at the National Sexuality Resource Center and the courses that I took through their summer institute were both...Read Entire Post

Hello from San Clemente, California!!! I have finally made it to California, but not quite to San Francisco yet. My sister and I got in today to San Clemente (which is a little south of L.A. they tell me) and on Wednesday I catch a flight in the early early morning to San Francisco/Oakland. The past week has been really intense! I left Maine on Saturday, May 26th, and got home in the same day. Then I left on Tuesday, May 29th and my sister and I made it to Nashville that night. We enjoyed a good time in Nashville kicking around listening to some live music and alleged up-and-coming stars. The next night we headed to Memphis and had a really really great time walking around that city. We hit...Read Entire Post

In no particular order are a smattering of reasons why I am all at once giddy, stressed, and ready to dance:

-Thursday at 3:45pm I will officially be done with classes. My junior year will unceremoniously end with a review for my take-home final in Modern Jewish Literature. While this year has been great overall, my classes have been wicked difficult this year and I will be happy to finally say goodbye to them!

-I have 2 take-home exams (approximately 7 pages each), 2 papers (1x7 pages, 1x10 pages), a creative writing portfolio to edit and essemble (3 stories of at least 10 pages each, and a non-fiction preface to the collection), and a semester's worth of in-class journal...Read Entire Post

Now many of you have no doubt heard or read about or even experienced the fabulous food on Colby's campus. We've got three fantastic dining halls and all of them are special, delicious, and most of all, nutritious. Our meal plan rocks and was a huge selling point for me on choosing Colby because I really didn't want to have to hassle with points, and meal credits, and inconsistent dining hall hours.

But, what I didn't know about when I was applying to Colby was how many AWESOME places there are to eat in Waterville and the surrounding towns. You may think there isn't anything up here, but in terms of food, and best of all in terms of GOOD food at LOW prices, central-Maine...Read Entire Post
