From Frosty to Iced...A Brief Review of the First Week of Spring Semester '08
If Mayflower Hill were to be best described as some sort of house, currently it would be an igloo. Our gorgeous campus is covered in about 82' of ice. There is ice on the buildings, on the trees, on top of the snow, but worst of all on the paths! Our Physical Plant Department (PPD) is doing an awesome job salting the paths and the roads but even they can't keep up with how much snow, ice, and freezing rain we are getting! I might be exaggerating about the 82' of ice but as the 7th graders in my girls' group say, "Leg-it" it is icy! (Leg-it=legit=legitimate).
My final semester at Colby is off to a great, albeit frigid, start. I have decided to take only three courses (12 credits) this semester so I can focus on Senior Pledge, my two girls' groups (one 7th grade group carried over from the fall and a new 6th grade group), and oh yea, finding a job. My three courses are each time consuming in their own right, so don't think I am getting off with a light load! For both of my majors, English and Women's Studies, I am taking a senior seminar. The focus in my English seminar is lyric poetry and subjectivity. In Women's Studies our focus is on the relationship between gender and violence. My third course is a play in the Theater and Dance department. Even though I have done plays at Colby before, this is my first performance for credit. It is already proving to be a lot of hard work and a ton of fun.
Speaking of the play, I need to get a move-on over to Runnals. Wish me luck as I "skate" my way over to rehearsal.
Best,
Patrick "I've never been good on ice" Sanders
